BENEVOLENCE

pabulum cafe

The Pabulum Cafe in Wymondham is local to the Lodge and is regularly attended by many people. The Cafe was previously a charity of the year.

The Cafe provides a friendly meeting place where those with dementia, their carers and other interested parties can come together to receive support, guidance and information.

We hope that Doric's support can go some way towards helping the Cafe in continuing it's great work within the Wymondham community.

WYMONDHAM

FUEL ALLOTMENTS

The Wymondham Fuel Allotments charity has been carrying out their very valuable work for some time now.

The charity assists those on low incomes living within the Wymondham area with vouchers which can be spent on food shopping just before Christmas each year.

The WFA was assisted in a previous Worshipful Master's year and we look forward to hopefully giving the charity our further help and assistance in the future.

NELSON'S JOURNEY

Nelson's Journey is a Norfolk based charity that supports children and young people up to their 18th birthday who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life.

They provide a range of support, appropriate for the needs of each child or young person. This may include one-to-one support and opportunities to meet others their age who have also experienced a bereavement.

One of the previous Worshipful Masters, Ian Poyser, made Nelson's Journey his charity of the year and he had the full support of all the Doric members in raising further funds for the charity to enable them to continue their invaluable work.

TEENAGE CANCER TRUST

Did you know that every day around seven young people are diagnosed with cancer?

The Teenage Cancer Trust create world-class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone.

The work that the trust does is very important and we, as Doric Lodge, enjoy supporting this outstanding charity.

The Lodge has assisted the trust with a donation of over £1000.

THE SEA PALLING

LIFEBOAT

The Sea Palling Independent Lifeboat (also known as the volunteer rescue service), was established in 1972.

It is run entirely by volunteers and no funding is received from Government or the RNLI etc.

The service has always been a cause which has been close to the previous Worshipful Master's heart and he therefore made this his charity of the year.

The members of Doric are very supportive of such a great organisation an we have made donations totaling over £3000 to the help keep this valuable service going.

the phoenix centre

The Phoenix Centre offers inpatient and day treatment programmes for young people with complex eating disorders whose needs cannot be met by generic child and adolescent mental health services or community services.

The Phoenix Centre’s range of programmes and evidence-based treatment aims to help young people manage their illness better rather than allowing it to control them.

Our current Worshipful Master Alastair Rolfe made this organisation his charity of the year between 2015 and 2016.

All the members of Doric Lodge were keen to support and see the good work of Phoenix carried on.

Click here to read the EDP article about Doric's contribution to the Centre.

brainwave

Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence by aiming to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies.

The children which Brainwave work with have a range of conditions including: autism, brain injuries such as cerebral palsy and genetic disorders such as Down’s syndrome.

Doric have supported Brainwave for a number of years and are keen to carry on doing so.

WYMONDHAM

FIRST RESPONDERS

Community First Responders are volunteers who give their time freely to help care for people and save lives in their community.

Responders are everyday members of the general public who are trained to deal with a wide range of potentially life threatening conditions until the arrival of an ambulance.

The Wymondham Community First Responders do such a great job in keeping us all well in the case of a medical emergency and we thank them for their work.

The members of Doric Lodge were happy to contribute towards their appeal for funds towards new kit.

what charity means

to us

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has always promoted charitable work.

There are few organisations that concentrate so much on raising funds internally.

You may be interested to know Freemasons in England and Wales are only second to the National Lottery in giving to charitable causes.

In addition to those mentioned above, Doric Lodge has supported many other charities and organisations and will continue to do so.

The Lodge regularly looks for new opportunities to support charities and organisations in need. If you would like to nominate one, particularly if they are based in the Wymondham or surrounding areas, then please contact our Secretary.

If you enjoy contributing towards charities then read here to see if Freemasonry may be for you.
